Continuing Our Memories

Memories

Nolan Ether

"Choosing Communication Studies as my major was one of the best decisions I ever made. You don't realize at the time how many intangibles you're learning that will help you succeed, regardless of the career path you choose. I made lifelong friends and built the perfect foundation on which to build a successful career."

What area/classes did you focus on while you were in COM?

My primary area of focus was video production. I also found classes like public speaking and research methods engaging and helpful.

What do you miss most about being a COM student?

My friends in the COM department, both students and professors. Late nights in the editing bay (though I don't miss logging and capturing MiniDV tapes). Wearing wet board shorts to class.

What is one piece of advice you would give yourself if you could go back?

Be even more active in the extra-curricular career development opportunities. Network more. Cherish every moment. Once college is over, you spend the rest of your life reminiscing about it. The future is also really exciting, but there's never another time like college.
